INSTALLATION: NOT IN THIS WORLD TO SEE
The illusion of “real,” or human-scale space and the meaning of “home” sustain my aesthetic and conceptual inquiry. My work examines the underlying resonance of childhood: limitlessness, inventiveness, mystery, imagination, adventure and possibility. A variety of approaches have enabled me to explore the act of playing that has become an important process in uncovering the metaphors of home and self - when fantasy meets reality. The ½-scale, six-room Victorian dollhouse, built from the ground up and partially imbedded in resin in the gallery floor, became the stimulus for photography, painting, printmaking and installation. The deconstruction of the house is fueled by the intrigue of the sweetness of the miniatures and the sinister that imbues the dark and mysterious elements.
